Why Rarity?
When I started watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I was very much intrigued with Rarity's character. At first I thought she was just going to be a prissy, spoiled, popular character that sort of looked down on others because of her interest in beauty, fame, and fashion. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that she was kind, thoughtful, polite, generous, and humble. It really made me fall in love with her, because she proved you can be super feminine and enjoy finer delicacies, but also have a noble and kind heart.
Plus she's a fashion designer and has purple hair! Like hello, she is complete goals for me, haha! I have even named one of my dressforms after her, because I like naming my sewing dressforms, machines, and mannequins after fictional fashion designers. Some other names include Edna Mode, Raven Baxter, and Marionette!

About This Costume
Rarity was a fairly simple costume. I wanted to wear something to the SugoiCon formal and decided to use what I had on hand! Only things I had to buy for the costume were the wig, which I bought off of a friend for a discount, and the jewelry which I got from Walmart. It actually perfectly resembled her cutie mark with three aqua diamond shaped gemstones in the necklace!
The rest I had on hand- costume jewelry from Charlotte Russe, my shoes were from prom (I loved them enough to keep them!) and the dress was from White House Black Market, a gift from my mother. She loves to gift me with fashionable things! She's really more like Rarity sometimes than I am! Though I like to think I have Rarity's creative side!
For this look I opted not to go for the horns and ears, since I wanted to imagine her as fully human, and it felt classier to go to a formal without those details, haha. If I were to redo this, I might consider them, as well as want to restyle my wig!
