Why Fyora?
If people could describe me with a single fandom, it would undoubtedly be the Neopets fandom! I have been obsessed with Neopets since I was a kid- the Faeries, the pets, the games- all of it! I even have an official giant posterboard LIFESIZE cut out of Queen Fyora, that I miraculously won in a raffle from a Neopets charity raffle! She is my prized possession. My love of Neopets, combined with my love for the color pink, made Fyora an obvious choice for me.
Despite Mira the Space Faerie being my first ever Neopets cosplay, Fyora was actually the first one I had TRIED to make! Unfortunately, it did not go well when I made my attempt on it back in 2012, but I held onto the materials for several years after. Come 2018, I realized that I had some other materials that I could use to make it even better than I could have imagined it!
It was always my dream to cosplay this at KatsuCon since the Gaylord Resort looks airy and bright just like Faerieland- uh before it fell into a forest. Yeah, if you haven't been keeping up with Neopia, that did actually happen. But let's just pretend it didn't, haha. Only downside was I didn't get to finish my faerie rod in time for Katsu 2018, but I hope to be able to make it one day!

About This Costume
Fyora's colors are surprisingly difficult to come by. Because she's neither quite pink, nor distinctly purple, but rather vaguely somewhere in the middle with a varying range of "orchid" shades. So her materials were difficult to match up. The chiffon was from Joann, and I bought it back in 2012. Sadly, I only got a yard of it. Now, I would opt for a three-yard-full skirt, for a bigger dress to play with, but I guess my mind was set on doing a columnar style dress back then. The chiffon from 2012 was the only material that carried over to 2018. I decided not to use the other materials I had saved.
So as far as new materials go, the sparkly top and bottom of the dress were scraps from my Selena Quintanilla bodysuit. Originally I was going to use a plain magenta spandex (as seen on the arm straps), but I'm really glad I switched it out half way through! The sparkles add a nice touch! The light orchid spandex which I used as a liner for the skirt as well as straps on the top of the dress and arm were originally going to be used for Menat, but since I put that cosplay on hold anyways, I figure why not use it for Fyora then!
I next had to get some mesh to match the dress, so I ordered some mesh from Spandex House. Though it was the correct color, it didn't quite match as well as I'd hoped, so I opted to do a single layer of spandex instead of a double layer, which I normally do for faerie wings. That means it took my forevvvverrrrr to hand sew the mesh to the wings.
I painted the stripes on the wings using Design Master spray paints- a combination of pink and purple. I wanted to airbrush it on, but I don't have an air compressor, and the reusable can I bought didn't have the correct coupling for the bike pump I have. Soooo, since I didn't have time to do anything about that, Design Master was the solution, since I had it on hand already!
The tiara was made of PETG plastic, molded with a heat gun, and then the back was spray painted with a stained glass spray paint in blue just light enough to give it that glassy blue appearance. Though sometimes it is still so translucent that it disappears into the background of photos, haha! Nonetheless, it looks really sweet. The gem is just a glass cabochon with the back painted with nail polish and glued onto the top.
I didn't get to make the staff for Katsu 2018, but I still intend to make it soon, so look forward to that update when I complete it!
