Why Azari?

I watched this adorable Netflix show a few years back and fell in love with the art, designs, and animation in the show. It's by the same studio that worked on Legend of Korra! Azari was such a little cutie, that I knew I'd wanna make her pretty flame dress, especially since I had everything I needed on hand to create it! I also really want to do more Elvendale cosplays *hint hint* in case anyone else ever wants to do some with me! ;P

About This Costume

The red dress is spandex, with orange spandex appliqué Heat n Bonded on top, and edge stitched for extra security. The yellow skirt is a separate layer that I slip on under the dress. For the little U detail on the top of the dress, I made an original shape in Instamorph, and then created a rubber mold of it and resin casted the pieces. They were spray painted gold, and glued onto the dress. The "floating" effect in the middle of the U is achieved using nude colored mesh which shows up nearly undetectable in photos!

The resin elf ears are from Yaya Han's shop, and the latex ears (used in later versions) are from Aradani. The wig is from Arda. I later dyed the bangs red to match Azari's hair, and spiffed up the hair style a bit for Saboten 2021. I also remade the yellow skirt in 2021 in a thicker spandex that held a more whimsical shape, and felt a lot comfier. I made built-in modesty shorts to keep the yellow skirt in place, also. Lastly, I updated the boots to be more accurate to the show as well.

In 2017, I originally used makeup to do the tattoos on the forehead, cheek, and arm. But in 2021, I turned them into vector images and used my Cricut to cut the shapes into permanent red vinyl, and used those as stick on "tattoos" instead. That way I wouldn't have to worry about them smudging, and it was a cheap and fast way to make sure I had extras on hand in case I needed a quick replacement. Oh, but don't worry, it doesn't hurt to peel it off of the skin, haha.
