Why America?
As soon as I saw Miss America in this outfit, I KNEW I had to cosplay it! First off, I'm a sucker for anything bodysuits. I love making them and love wearing them. Secondly, it's AMERICA CHAVEZ! There aren't many Latina characters in general, but let alone, LGBT Latina characters, so I very badly wanted to cosplay her after a friend recommended me to read Young Avengers, in which I first learned about Chavez.
Although I'm still working on her more popularly known look with the black shorts and jean jacket, Her bodysuit look was pretty easy for me to pull off since I only had to get navy blue spandex to make the outfit. The rest just fell into place! Wearing this outfit is so fun, but I like to joke that I'm cosplaying an Olympic ice luger, because the Winter Olympics were going on while I made it, and it very much could resemble an American athletic uniform, hahaha!

About This Costume
The bodysuit is mostly made of milliskin, with the designs appliquéd on, and top stitched for good measure! It was a completely custom pattern done by me. The three stars on the front were cast in resin and then glued on, which I feel really added a whole new dimension to it (haha get it? Because she punches through dimensions?) and I'm really glad I opted to do that as opposed to just small appliqué stars. It's a nice touch!
As for the rest of the outfit, it was actually just all found-item or "closet cosplay", meaning all stuff I had on hand! The boots I had originally gotten to do a Black Canary look (since her pirate boot look is weird, I think lace ups look way more bad ass), but alas, I have not gotten to do Canary's yet, though luckily these are pretty much what Chavez wears in her first appearance in this suit! They are cheapie boots though, so despite me not having worn them much, I've had them since 2014 and the pleather is already deteriorating. Womp womp.
Decided to go ahead and do her final look in this suit with the red boots in early 2019 for a revamp of my costume. Look forward to version 2.0 of this cosplay! I'll also be making more accurate pinhole shades and painting an American flag motif on them to match hers from the comic.
The belt I also had on hand, it probably came off of a dress or something. The gloves, while not pleather, matched the coat really well, I had to remove some fur trim on them, but otherwise they work! The jacket was from Forever 21, ironically from the kids' section, ahahaha. But I have super short arms, so finding good leather or denim jackets are a challenge for me. This one fits me perfectly!
All in all, despite the suit being the main chunk of the outfit, the rest of the accessories were all stuff I had on hand, which is awfully convenient!
